With the slat I pried off the wall panel and got to the bare circuitry. The circuits and mechanisms inside the cramped space behind the wall shivered and jumped in my fingers as I worked to find the live bits and connect them. Then the tiny speaker... there it was... Behind me, a weak voice rose. "Are you trying to hear what they're saying?"
"Be quiet."
She was. "ZZZZZZ... dzeeet... dssmuzzzbez... "Getting something!" I blurted. "Come on, come on.. The sound was vibrating directly through the composites. If I could just hook it up to this speaker, I'd be able to eavesdrop on the ship's doings.
